Since 2001, Kinderkey has been designing and manufacturing safe sleep solutions for various conditions such as Angelman Syndrome.
Our Bearhugzzz SpacerSaver bed has been specifically developed to provide a comfortable sleeping environment for both adults and children. Soft padded sides help to protect against injury, and they can be made as high as the room can accommodate. This bed is also available in a height adjustable version.
Kinderkey can offer home or virtual assessments to ensure the bed is perfectly designed to fit your space. Built to order, it can be manufactured to any length, width, or height to create a fully bespoke solution.
Angelman Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects the nervous system, leading to developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and various neurological problems. Characterised by a distinctive behavioural profile, which includes frequent laughter and smiling, an excitable demeanour and a generally happy disposition; this congenital condition will begin to show symptoms between the ages of 6 to 12 months.
Those affected may also exhibit significant challenges in speech and communication, mobility challenges and seizures. Although there is no cure, early intervention and specialised care can greatly improve quality of life.
Individuals with Angelman Syndrome often experience challenges in establishing a consistent and restful sleep routine, which can lead to sleep fragmentation, insomnia and excessive daytime sleepiness. These disruptions stem from a complex interplay between the underlying genetic factors, neurochemical imbalances, and the involvement of the circadian rhythm system in mediating the sleep-wake cycles.
Sleep disturbances associated with Angelman Syndrome not only exacerbate cognitive impairments and mood dysregulation, but they also pose significant challenges to caregivers and families who provide support.
