Ataxia is a neurological condition that affects coordination, balance, and overall motor skills, resulting in a wide range of challenges in daily activities. It can manifest itself in various forms including cerebellar ataxia, which originates from damage to the cerebellum; and sensory ataxia, which results from impaired sensory feedback.

As it impairs the ability to control voluntary muscle movement, those with ataxia may struggle to find a comfortable position to maintain a good night’s sleep. Additionally, they often suffer from sleep disruptions due to frequent awakenings caused by body pain, muscle stiffness or the inability to turn independently, which leads to a vicious cycle of poor sleep and exacerbated daytime fatigue.
