Spina bifida is a neural tube birth defect that involves the incomplete development of the spinal cord or its covering. It can have a significant impact on an individual’s physical and cognitive abilities, including their sleep pattern.

People with spina bifida often experience sleep disruptions due to physical discomfort and medication side effects. The use of mobility aids such as wheelchairs and braces can also make it difficult to find comfortable sleeping positions. Additionally, sleep apnoea (a common condition in individuals with spina bifida) can further disrupt sleep and lead to other health complications.
